The expansion of the odd-even plate policy will officially be implemented today, Monday 9th September.
The policy states that during weekdays in Jakarta, cars with license plates ending with odd numbers will only be allowed to travel on odd-numbered dates in certain streets in Jakarta, during peak hours. Meanwhile, cars with plate numbers ending with even numbers will only be allowed to travel in certain streets of Jakarta on even dates.
The policy will apply on weekdays between 6am to 10 am and 4 pm to 9 pm with the exception of public holidays. The rule has been extended from nine streets to 25 in Jakarta, with the addition of one hour to the timings.
Jakarta’s police are set to ticket violators in accordance with Article 287 of the 2009 Road Traffic Law. “Violators could face a penalty of two months in jail or a Rp500,000 fine,” the police’s traffic law enforcement unit head, Commander Muhammad Nasir said.
The policy extension is based on the 2019 gubernatorial instruction issued by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.
