According to the North Maluku Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), six people have died during a North Maluku earthquake which struck on Sunday 14th July.
About 3,000 people have also been evacuated after the strong, 7.2 magnitude quake.
Ridwan Samad, head of the regional agency, said that the six victims had already been laid to rest. 3,107 people are reported to still be staying in 15 evacuation posts.
The earthquake had also destroyed 13 public facilities and 971 houses. Ridwan added that the numbers are projected to increase as the destruction and damage in some villages have not yet been recorded.
Earlier, South Halmahera Regent, Baharain Kasuba, issued an alert at emergency status in the region for seven days in order to ease the movement of disaster management teams, logistics, and equipment distribution at emergency sites.
