Jonathan Christie Beats Anthony Ginting in All-Indonesian Final at Badminton’ Australian Open 2019

Jonathan Christie has clinched Badminton’s Australian Open title by beating fellow compatriot Anthony Ginting in the men’s singles final.

Jonathan, who is currently ranked number 8 in the world, beat world number 7 badminton player Ginting with 21-17, 13-21, and 21-14. In the early stages of the match, Jonathan led the first set by scoring six points non-stop, earning him a 6-0 lead over Anthony. Anthony slowly managed to earn himself points but had to succumb to Jonathan’s 4 point lead. Anthony was unstoppable in the second set and won by 8 points, hence a rubber set was played. However, Jonathan managed to bounce back to win the rubber set, earning himself the title. Asian Games gold medalist Jonathan Christie had also won the New Zealand open championship last month.

Indonesia is currently counting on Jonathan Christie and Anthony Ginting for the 2019 Olympics in Tokyo.
