The Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 12, that it would not be involved in the investigations of the shock death of a key witness in the e-KTP corruption case.
Investigations into the corruption case will also continue unhindered.
US media reported Johannes Marliem had been discovered dead in West Hollywood. While rumours immediately began to swirl on social media, investigations are continuing.
“We do not know the cause of death yet,” National Police International Relations Chief Saiful Maltha said Saturday, according to Reuters. Indonesian police have teamed up with the US’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The long-running case has embroiled lawmakers from across the country, including House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto.
Novanto is the focus of accusations suggesting cash up to US$5.5 million earmarked for the wide-scale infrastructure project had been divided up between lawmakers at the House, according to Tempo.
