A Journey into the Sense of Silence at Grand Hyatt Bali

A Journey into the Sense of Silence at Grand Hyatt Bali

Sense of Silence at Grand Hyatt Bali invites guests to experience Nyepi through curated rituals, immersive dining and beachfront wellness in Nusa Dua.

At last, the moment arrives when the crowded island falls silent. The Hindus observe their sacred Day of Silence. The bright island turns dark, the lively island grows still, and its bustling people become quiet.

Nyepi marks the beginning of the Caka New Year in Bali, an occasion devoted to peace and introspection. In the lead-up to Nyepi, the tradition of Melasti unfolds, as devotees dressed in pure white walk in long, graceful processions towards the beach to cleanse themselves and wash away negativity. On the eve of Nyepi, the island transforms into a vibrant carnival during the Ogoh-ogoh parade, where towering handcrafted statues symbolise demonic forces and fearsome creatures.

On the day itself, the Balinese observe Catur Brata Penyepian, the four sacred prohibitions: Amati Geni (no fire), Amati Karya (no work), Amati Lelungan (no travel), and Amati Lelanguan (no entertainment).

Grand Hyatt Bali, the family-friendly beachfront resort in Nusa Dua, invites guests to embrace this unique season with Sense of Silence, a curated journey of five-sense rituals that honour tradition, serenity and renewal, welcoming a new sense of self.

Ogoh-ogoh Parade

Before entering the Day of Silence, guests are invited to witness the Ogoh-ogoh parade as it passes through the resort. Children can join the celebration by creating their own miniature versions and proudly parading their creations around the grounds, adding a joyful family touch to the tradition.

The celebration culminates in the burning of the Ogoh-ogoh, a powerful ritual believed to release the negative energies absorbed during the procession and return them to the universe in purified form. This symbolic act cleanses both environment and community, preparing everyone to enter Nyepi in renewed harmony and balance.
