Oncology Center Mayapada Hospital Introduces PET-CT and SPECT-CT for More Accurate Cancer Diagnosis and Detection

Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan introduces the latest nuclear medicine technology, offering lower radiation exposure, faster procedures, and more accurate results.

Mayapada Healthcare (PT Sejahteraraya Anugerahjaya Tbk.) (IDX: SRAJ) continues to elevate the standard of cancer care within its flagship service, Oncology Center Mayapada Hospital, by introducing advanced Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics technologies through globally standardised PET-CT Scan and SPECT-CT Scan at Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan (MHJS).

These diagnostic technologies represent advanced imaging systems that are still limited in availability across hospitals in Indonesia. They are capable of detecting diseases at the cellular (body cells) and molecular (cellular activity/metabolism) levels. This innovation marks a strategic step in strengthening an integrated cancer care ecosystem across the Mayapada Hospital network, enabling patients to undergo a comprehensive diagnostic-to-therapy journey within a faster and more precise care pathway.

The PET-CT Scan and SPECT-CT Scan technologies from Siemens Healthineers at MHJS offer significant advantages in diagnostic accuracy and cancer treatment effectiveness. These include full-body imaging capabilities with sharper results, lower radiation exposure or radio-pharmaceutical doses, faster examination times, and more streamlined care pathways, while minimising the need for repeat examinations.

Navin Sonthalia, President Director & CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, stated, “Mayapada Healthcare’s investment in advanced diagnostic tools such as PET-CT and SPECT-CT is not merely about adding new technology, but forms part of our commitment to building a comprehensive and modern Oncology Center ecosystem. We ensure that patients receive accurate diagnoses, appropriate therapies, and improved life expectancy—without the need to seek treatment abroad. In line with the development of Tower 3 at Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan, we are further strengthening MHJS’s position as one of the largest advanced cancer care centres, as well as the largest private hospital in Indonesia within a single location, offering comprehensive, integrated, and technology-driven services.”

He added, “Next year, we will introduce PET-CT and SPECT-CT at Mayapada Hospital Tangerang (MHTG) and Surabaya (MHSB), as well as PET-CT at Mayapada Hospital Bandung (MHBD), as part of our strategy to enhance service quality across the entire network. These improvements are supported by clinical collaborations with world-class strategic partners such as Apollo Hospitals India, National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore, and others, alongside the implementation of Joint Commission International (JCI) standards already achieved by MHJS, with a strong focus on patient safety and accuracy at every stage of care.”

As the first unit within the Mayapada Hospital network to install this technology, Dr Fiktorius Kuludong, MM, Hospital Director of Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan, emphasised that MHJS continues to enhance the overall patient experience, including serving as a cancer care centre for all Mayapada Hospital units through a Comprehensive Cancer Care approach.

“In handling complex cancer cases, we are committed to We Walk Every Journey with C.A.R.E (Compassion, Advanced, Responsive, Experts), where we accompany each patient throughout their journey via comprehensive assistance from our Patient Navigator team. This ensures patients and their families receive a more coordinated, effective, and comfortable care pathway, supported by advanced technology and the expertise and active collaboration of multidisciplinary doctors within the Tumour Board. This approach ensures that every case is handled comprehensively, based on evidence, and tailored through a patient-centred care approach,” he explained.

The PET-CT Scan and SPECT-CT Scan are installed within the Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Theranostic Center, providing services that detect diseases at both cellular and molecular levels, while also enabling therapies that specifically target cancer cells with minimal impact on healthy tissue.

Nuclear therapy procedures are conducted in a Radioactive Isolation Room (RIR), equipped with radiation safety systems and natural-view windows, ensuring patients can undergo treatment safely and comfortably.

One of the Nuclear Medicine Specialists at Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan, Dr Lim Andreas, Sp.KN, explained that the primary need for patients—particularly in suspected cancer cases—is diagnostic certainty.

“PET-CT and SPECT-CT play a crucial role for many cancer patients, both in early detection and in establishing diagnoses, detecting recurrence, and accurately monitoring therapy response. These technologies complement each other: PET-CT evaluates cellular activity and metabolism to detect disease, determine its spread, and monitor therapy response, while SPECT-CT is used to assess organ function and assist in treatment planning. All procedures are conducted using safe doses of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with standards, which are optimally distributed within 30–180 minutes, enabling comprehensive imaging and supporting more precise and personalised therapy,” he explained.

Dr Andreas added that the presence of PET-CT and SPECT-CT technology also supports medical teams across Mayapada Hospital units in detecting and managing cancer cases.

“With the integration of this technology, multidisciplinary collaboration among doctors can operate more optimally, ensuring that clinical decisions and treatment planning become increasingly comprehensive and accurate, with a focus on achieving the best clinical outcomes for patients,” he added.

In delivering this advanced diagnostic technology, Mayapada Healthcare collaborates with its strategic partner, Siemens Healthineers. Alfred Fahringer, President Director of Siemens Healthineers Indonesia, stated, “We are proud to collaborate with Mayapada Healthcare, reflecting a strong synergy between our technological innovation and Mayapada Healthcare’s clinical excellence, as well as its strong capability in delivering services focused on patient experience and outcomes. Amid the growing cancer burden in Indonesia, this long-term partnership aims to expand access to precision cancer diagnostics, improve clinical efficiency, and strengthen clinical excellence. We appreciate Mayapada Healthcare’s commitment to consistently maintaining and implementing international quality standards, including in strengthening integrated oncology services.”

To ensure optimal implementation, Mayapada Healthcare, together with Siemens Healthineers, is also enhancing the competencies of medical professionals through knowledge transfer programmes, from installation to the optimisation of technology use in clinical practice.

With the integration of advanced technology and multidisciplinary collaboration, Oncology Center Mayapada Hospital is now further strengthened as an integrated cancer service, delivering more definitive diagnoses, more precise therapies, and a more comfortable care experience for patients in Indonesia.
