Noratep Vanapirome, a 69-year-old Thai tourist, had reportedly passed away during a hiking trip towards the summit of Padar island.
The small island is located between the islands of Komodo and Rinca, and is part of the Komodo archipelago of East Nusa Tenggara province.
According to local authorities, Vanapirome died due to a cardiac arrest. “His body is now at the Marombok Regional General Hospital in Labuan Bajo,” Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority director Shana Fatina confirmed.
She also stated that the tour group of which Vanapirome was a part of is currently in Bali, and will carry on their trip to Sumba. The Indonesian Tourism Ministry has made arrangements for his body to be flown back to Thailand today.
