Amid rising fuel prices impacting the operations of many airlines worldwide, Scoot—the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines—recently announced the opening of flights to Belitung and Pontianak, as well as flight capacity expansion to major Indonesian tourism destinations.

Located off the east coast of Sumatra, Belitung is known for its stretches of white sandy beaches, iconic granite rock formations, and clusters of small islands for tourists to explore. The island is also home to the tarsier, a nocturnal primate found only in the region. Meanwhile, as the capital of West Kalimantan, Pontianak sits directly on the equator and is known for its Equator Monument, which allows visitors to stand between the northern and southern hemispheres. The city also lies along the Kapuas River—known as Indonesia’s longest river—and boasts a rich cultural and culinary heritage.

Scoot’s flights to Belitung are scheduled to begin operating twice weekly on the 3rd of May 2026. The airline offers one-way economy class fares starting from S$99 (equivalent to Rp1.3 million) for the Belitung route. The flights to Pontianak will operate three times weekly starting on the 29th of June 2026. One-way fares for economy class start at S$129 (equivalent to Rp1.7 million). The new flights will be available for booking via Scoot’s website, mobile application, and progressively through other channels.

The Chief Executive Officer of Scoot, Leslie Thng, stated that the additional routes and increased frequency are part of the airline’s strategy to expand its reach and strengthen its network connectivity.

“The addition of new routes to Belitung and Pontianak not only enhances Scoot’s footprint in Indonesia, but also strengthens the SIA Group’s network connectivity through Singapore,” he said in a press release on Thursday, 9th of April.

Thng also added that the increased frequency to various popular destinations was also implemented to accommodate the surge in travel demand ahead of the school holidays.

“We remain committed to providing our customers with more travel options and enjoyable journeys with Scoot,” he concluded.

Scoot is not only opening new routes but also expanding flight capacity to major Indonesian destinations that have historically generated the highest traffic. Starting in June 2026, flights to Bali and Jakarta will rise from 28 to 35 weekly flights. Meanwhile, services to Labuan Bajo will grow from two to three flights per week, flights to Lombok will increase from four to 10 times weekly, and flights to Manado will increase from six times weekly to daily flights.
