Jokowi: Slimmer Government for Second Term to Increase Efficiency

Mr. President Jokowi

President Joko Widodo, who is currently set to serve for a second term, has expressed his desire to have a slimmer government in his second term. He cited that there is a need to reduce inefficiencies and to accelerate growth.

“The slimmer our organisation, the faster we can run,” Jokowi said. The president, who spoke in front hundreds of regional leaders in Jakarta yesterday, also urged regional governments to reduce their bureaucracy. He added that the government agencies which do not contribute to growth will be closed. In his second term, Jokowi can be more confident. having no concerns about missing out on re-election, and has more freedom to try different strategies to boost development.

Based on the final results from various quick count agencies, Jokowi has a double-digit lead over rival Prabowo Subianto. However, the official results will be released by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on 22nd May 2019.
