To observe Nyepi Day (Day of Silence) in Bali, which falls on the 19th of March 2026, approximately 440 aircraft movements and several ferry operations will be suspended.

Goentoro, speaking on behalf of the Airport Operations and Security Services unit at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, explained that airport management has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) regarding the suspension of airport operations during Nyepi. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport will close at 6 AM Central Indonesian Time on the 19th of March for 24 hours, with airport operations resuming the following day.

Approximately 440 aircraft movements or operations will cease during Nyepi,” Goentoro said on Saturday, the 8th of March.

Meanwhile, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is predicted to serve around 1.1 million passengers during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period, which will also coincide with Nyepi Day. The Eid al-Fitr holiday period is expected to last 18 days, from the 13th to the 30th of March.

Goentoro explained that the number of passengers is estimated to reach 1,130,436 people, with 6,742 aircraft movements. He predicted that the peak of the homecoming flow (mudik) at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport would occur on the 18th of March, the day before Nyepi, with passenger movement reaching around 71,000 people. Furthermore, the peak of the return flow is estimated to occur on the 28th of March.

Additionally, ferry services on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route will be temporarily suspended during Nyepi, as PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) will halt ferry operations from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, to Gilimanuk, Bali, as well as several routes to Lombok during this period.

The Director General of Land Transportation at the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, stated that these operational adjustments are part of national transportation regulations to maintain order during Nyepi in Bali.

“This operational adjustment is also being made because Nyepi Day coincides with the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period, which is expected to see a surge in public mobility,” Suhanan had previously said in a statement last Friday (6th of March).

The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, together with ASDP, has established a temporary operational suspension schedule at several major ports, namely:

  • Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi: 18th of March, 5 PM Western Indonesian Time to the 20th of March, 6 AM Western Indonesian Time;
  • Gilimanuk Port, Bali: 19th of March, 5 AM Central Indonesian Time to the 20th of March, 6 AM Central Indonesian Time;
  • Lembar Port, Lombok: 18th of March, 9 PM Central Indonesian Time to the 20th of March, 1.30 AM Central Indonesian Time;
  • Padangbai Port, Bali: 19th of March, 4 AM Central Indonesian Time to the 20th of March, 11.30 AM Central Indonesian Time.

During this period, all ferry services will be temporarily suspended to observe Nyepi in Bali.
