Indeed, it goes beyond mere enrichment; it is essential for fostering language skills and cultivating global awareness. These are particularly useful for ESL students who are coming to grasp the concept that there are many different ‘types’ of English.

If students can be encouraged to develop an understanding and appreciation of the arts, culture, and entertainment in its many varied and enriching forms, then their creativity will follow. The element of choice and authenticity in learning is key to children developing rounded personalities with a wide, broad set of interests, skills, and abilities. This can be developed and encouraged through the utilisation of creativity skills where students explore themselves and their development through projects like playwriting, storytelling, and digital art.

Once again, these activities not only build language skills but also promote cultural awareness and personal expression.

Using Entertainment to Foster Global Perspectives

Global perspectives, as the name suggests, entails students acquiring an understanding of the situations, well-being, conditions, and thought processes of cultures around the globe. They begin to understand the pressure and joys as well as the concerns of people they are never likely to come into contact with and, by doing so, they become more well-rounded people themselves.

The exposure of international films, songs, or documentaries exposes students to diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic worldview. Once introduced to different cultural themes or ideas in these media, students become more globalised citizens.

Integrating AI with Arts and Culture in Education

AI is here to stay and no amount of wishful thinking is ever going to push this particular genie back into the bottle. That said, it is now down to society in general, and educators in particular, to embrace its presence and use it for the greater good.

AI tools can enhance arts and culture education as the knowledge and information contained within can help students in analysing artistic styles, translating songs or poetry, or creating culturally-inspired digital art.

That being said, students need to be taught how to use AI assistance effectively. Done right, AI can explain, produce, explore, and motivate students to go further than ever before through guided learning. But if done haphazardly, AI will be the teacher’s worst nightmare. It is imperative that students see AI as a teaching assistant – an entity that can help them better understand and progress in any given topic – and this includes developing the skills and output as stated above.
