As General Manager of Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran, David Stanton brings a strong international background in hotel operations and executive leadership to the resort.
His career began in Sydney, Australia, following the completion of a Business Degree with a specialisation in Hotel Management, laying the groundwork for a distinguished path within the global hospitality sector.
Stanton built his operational expertise at Sheraton on the Park Sydney, where he held key leadership roles including Executive Assistant Manager, Director of Rooms, and Regional Director of Operational Excellence for the Pacific. He later expanded his international footprint as Resort Manager at Sheraton Samoa from 2016 to 2020, overseeing operations at Western Samoa’s first internationally branded hotel. Today, this broad background informs his leadership at Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran as he reflects on his career, management philosophy, and the evolving landscape of luxury hospitality.
What parts of your own background and experience do you think most influence your approach at Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran?
From a diverse career spanning multiple markets and leadership functions, I’ve developed a comprehensive understanding of hotel operations, team leadership, and guest experience. This strong operational foundation now supports my role as General Manager of Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran, where I am focused on delivering exceptional guest experiences while driving the property’s continued success.
Beyond operational expertise, I identify with more of a people-focused leadership style and a commitment to developing talent. I consistently create opportunities for high-potential associates to grow, taking a coaching approach centered on teaching, mentoring, and supporting. This philosophy has helped me foster a positive team culture where associates feel empowered to learn, take initiative, and build confidence in their capabilities. What I also believe to be equally important is an openness to feedback and constructive discussion. I encourage continuous learning and improvement, viewing mistakes as opportunities for growth rather than reasons for criticism. Combined with a coaching mindset, this creates an environment where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, contributing different perspectives, and collaborating to achieve shared goals.
Tell us about Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran.
One of the aspects I value most about Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran is its unique combination of location and intimate scale. Situated just steps from the iconic Jimbaran Beach and conveniently close to Bali’s international airport, the hotel offers spacious accommodations, with even its entry-level rooms measuring an impressive 53 square meters. With only 117 rooms, the property provides a more personalised guest experience while maintaining the renowned service standards of Marriott International. The hotel’s prime location also allows guests to enjoy the vibrant culinary scene along Jimbaran Beach, where fresh seafood and spectacular sunset views create memorable dining experiences.
Beyond its location and personalised service, Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran continues to enhance the guest experience through innovative cultural programming. One of the hotel’s newest initiatives is Unlock Art™, a signature Le Méridien program designed to connect travellers with local artistic and cultural experiences. Through this concept, guests from around the world are invited to discover and engage with the rich artistic heritage of Bali, creating a deeper connection to the destination beyond traditional sightseeing. Available to all guests staying at Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran, Unlock Art™ reflects the brand’s commitment to inspiring curiosity, creativity, and cultural exploration.
Jimbaran has its own character within Bali, particularly compared to some of the island’s faster-paced tourism areas. What do you think makes this part of Bali special, and has your relationship with the island changed since you first arrived?
For me, Jimbaran represents a distinctive side of Bali that offers visitors an authentic and relaxed island experience. Beyond my professional responsibilities, Bali has become a place I genuinely appreciate and enjoy calling home. I am particularly drawn to the island’s rich culture, warm and welcoming people, beautiful beaches, year-round tropical climate, and balanced lifestyle. But mostly, I am grateful for the way Bali has embraced both myself and my family.
Guest expectations have changed significantly in recent years. What do today’s travellers expect from a stay in Bali, and how is that influencing the way hotels approach hospitality?
Reflecting on the evolving hospitality landscape, I believe the rise of artificial intelligence and the growing importance of high-speed connectivity have been among the most significant changes shaping the industry today. Reliable internet access is no longer considered a luxury but an essential component of the guest experience, supporting everything from remote work and entertainment streaming to digital concierge services and instant communication. Technology has also transformed hotel operations through real-time reservations, mobile check-in capabilities, enhanced guest personalisation, and more efficient service delivery.
What is the next chapter for you and Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran?
Speaking for myself, I am also passionate about sports and healthy living. I actively encourage associates to maintain a healthy lifestyle and lead by example. It reinforces the importance of personal well-being alongside strong performance, promoting a balanced and sustainable approach to success. Looking ahead, I view my appointment at Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran as an exciting new chapter in my hospitality journey. I remain committed to fostering growth, strengthening the guest experience, empowering my team, and creating meaningful and memorable stays for every visitor.
