BINUS SCHOOL Simprug was named Champion in the EDU FOR GOOD category at the Brands For Good Awards 2026, recognising its commitment to combining academic excellence with meaningful social and environmental impact.
Academic excellence is no longer the only measure of a school’s success. Increasingly, educational institutions are recognised not only for academic achievement but also for the positive impact they create within their communities and beyond. This growing emphasis on purpose-driven education is reflected in the Brands For Good Awards 2026, which celebrate organisations that deliver meaningful social and environmental impact alongside organisational excellence.
Held in collaboration with the Singapore International Mastery Contests Center (SIMCC) and the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), the Brands For Good Awards 2026 introduced a new EDU FOR GOOD category, recognising schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering quality education that extends beyond academic excellence to create meaningful and lasting impact on communities and the environment.
The Brands For Good Awards evaluate organisations across areas including leadership, organisational excellence, brand impact, and social and environmental contribution. The 2026 awards brought together approximately 110 brands from more than 25 countries, culminating in the Together For Good gala at D’Marquee @ Downtown East, Singapore.
For BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, being named Champion in the EDU FOR GOOD category represents more than recognition for a series of community initiatives. It affirms the school’s long-term commitment to making positive impact an intended outcome of education itself. It begins in the Primary Years Programme, where students learn to connect inquiry with responsible action. It continues through alumni who carry the same mindset into their industries and communities, and it is reinforced by parents who contribute their expertise and enrich learning beyond the classroom.
Through this approach, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug defines education for good not by the scale of a donation or the number of activities undertaken, but by its ability to develop individuals who can transform empathy into informed, sustainable and lasting impact.
Among the initiatives that demonstrate this commitment are:
NAVCANE: Transforming Compassion into Innovation
Serena and Meagan demonstrate the next stage of this educational journey. They identified an accessibility challenge and translated their learning into NAVCANE, an AI-integrated assistive navigation device for people with visual impairments. Their selection for the IB Global Youth Action Fund demonstrates how student agency can progress from classroom learning to a potential real-world solution.
Brandon Limbono: Carrying Impact into Professional Leadership
Brandon’s journey demonstrates the continuity of the school’s values. The interdisciplinary thinking, leadership skills and sense of purpose developed during his education continue to influence his decisions in business and industry. His experience illustrates that the school’s impact extends well beyond graduation.
PYPX: Learning to Understand Before Taking Action
Over 25 weeks, Grade 5 students worked in nine groups to investigate challenges ranging from poverty and housing to deforestation, food waste, clean energy and ocean pollution. They then transformed their research into practical projects, including teaching English to underserved students, creating a solar-powered charging station, growing vegetables and composting food waste, and planting trees and mangroves. Through PYPX, students learned that meaningful impact begins with understanding a problem before designing a responsible solution.
Rebuilding Access to Early Education in Sumba
Facing inadequate classrooms and limited learning facilities, PAUD Sumber Kasih in Sumba needed a safer and more supportive environment for its young learners. Eleven BINUS SCHOOL Simprug students responded by partnering with Happy Hearts Indonesia to rebuild two classrooms, provide proper sanitation facilities, educational resources and an outdoor playground. The project also repurposed 2.2 tonnes of plastic waste and forms part of a broader initiative supporting more than 140 children across two early childhood education schools.
These initiatives reflect BINUS SCHOOL Simprug’s belief that education extends beyond academic achievement. Success is measured not only by academic performance but also by the ability to develop compassionate, capable and globally minded young people who can transform empathy into informed action and create meaningful solutions for their communities and the wider world.
