This restaurant started from a humble stall in a public bazaar in Wassenaar. Then, the owner, Suprapti Tanjung a.k.a. Ibu Lapek, had an idea to bring the authentic nasi Padang by opening a restaurant in 2019. Today, Waroeng Padang Lapek has gained its popularity in the Netherlands and beyond, proven especially by many Indonesian politicians and businesspeople, such as the Indonesian Minister of State-owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, and Bali Governor I Wayan Koster, who have paid a visit to the restaurant.
