International applicants can choose from undergraduate, vocational, Master’s and doctoral programmes across a wide range of disciplines, with study pathways available in both Indonesian and English.
Universitas Indonesia (UI, in English: the University of Indonesia), one of Indonesia’s leading universities, is now welcoming applications from international students for the 2026 academic year. Prospective students can apply for both undergraduate and graduate programmes, offering a world-class education in Indonesia’s vibrant capital region.
Undergraduate Pathways: Regular and International Classes
For undergraduate studies, UI offers two distinct pathways: Regular Class and International Class. The Regular Class delivers courses in Indonesian, making it ideal for students who wish to immerse themselves in the local language and culture. Applicants must have graduated from high school or an equivalent institution in 2023 or later.
Meanwhile, the International Class provides instruction entirely in English, catering to students seeking a globally-oriented academic experience. This track accepts applicants who graduated in 2021 or later, opening opportunities for those with slightly earlier academic backgrounds.
Both undergraduate and graduate applicants can conveniently submit their applications online via UI’s official admission portal at admission.ui.ac.id.
Whether you’re aiming to pursue cutting-edge research at the graduate level or explore Indonesia through an undergraduate programme, UI provides a dynamic, inclusive environment to kickstart your academic journey.
According to the admission portal, the required documents are as follows:
- Non-Indonesian passport;
- Recent colour photo (full face without hat/glasses/accessories);
- High school or equivalent school certificate;
- High school or equivalent school academic transcript;
- English proficiency certificate: EPT UI with a minimum score of 500; ITP TOEFL with a minimum score of 500; IELTS with a minimum score of 5.5; or FCE and CAE from Cambridge Main Suite Exams with a minimum score of 154. Only certificates from 2023 onwards are considered valid.

TIBA/UKBI certificate is a mandatory document, except for those who have received a degree from an institution where Indonesian is the primary language of instruction.
- Health certificate.
The required documents for the undergraduate international programme are basically the same as the previously mentioned, but exclude the Indonesian language proficiency certificate. However, all candidates are still required to submit the English proficiency certificate, with a minimum score depending on each faculty’s condition.
International candidates may apply to one of the faculties grouped into three major academic clusters:
Health Science Cluster
- Medicine;

Science and Technology Cluster

- Administrative Science.
Each faculty may have additional specific admission requirements. Therefore, applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the respective faculty’s official website before applying.
Vocational Programme: Practice-Oriented Education
Beyond undergraduate and graduate studies, UI also offers a Vocational Programme, designed for international students seeking applied, industry-focused education. All vocational subjects are delivered in Indonesian.
Available programmes include:
- Creative Business;

- Tourism Business Management.
These programmes emphasise practical skills and professional readiness, preparing students for immediate entry into the workforce.
Master’s Programme: Advanced Study with Language Flexibility
UI’s Master’s programmes are primarily delivered in Indonesian, with one notable exception: the Master of Management (MBA) programme, which is conducted entirely in English.
All application documents must be submitted online through the applicant’s registration account. Required documents include a valid non-Indonesian passport, a recent colour photograph, a Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcript, as well as a health certificate.
For programmes delivered in Indonesian, applicants must provide proof of proficiency in Indonesian. Accepted certifications include TIBA (minimum score of 4) or UKBI (minimum score of 482). Alternatively, applicants may submit a BIPA course certificate from LBI FIB UI with a minimum level of 3, particularly if they do not possess a formal Indonesian proficiency certificate or did not graduate from an institution where Indonesian was the primary language of instruction.
For the Master of Management (MBA) programme, applicants must submit proof of English proficiency, either a PBT/ITP TOEFL score of at least 570 or an IELTS score of at least 6.5. In addition, MBA applicants are required to provide a standardised entrance exam score, such as GMAT or GRE. Candidates without a GMAT score above 600 (or equivalent GRE score) must complete four levelling courses through Peregrine Academic, with the associated costs borne by the applicant.
Doctoral Programme: Research-Driven Excellence
For those pursuing the highest level of academic study, UI’s Doctoral programmes are delivered entirely in Indonesian and emphasise independent research and scholarly contribution.
All required documents must be submitted online via the applicant’s registration account. Applicants must provide a non-Indonesian passport, a recent colour photograph, a Master’s degree certificate and transcript, a health certificate, a Statement of Purpose and, where required, a recommendation letter.
Some doctoral programmes require proof of Indonesian language proficiency or a BIPA certificate from LBI FIB UI with a minimum level of 3. Certain study programmes may also require proof of English proficiency.
Applicants to the Faculty of Economics and Business must additionally submit a standardised entrance exam score (GMAT or GRE). Similar to the MBA requirements, candidates who do not meet the minimum GMAT score of 600 (or equivalent GRE score) must complete four levelling courses through Peregrine Academic at their own expense.
As Master’s and doctoral requirements may vary between faculties and study programmes, prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to review detailed criteria on each faculty’s official website.
