As part of their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) journey, students at Global Jaya School embarked on a meaningful partnership with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia.
This student-led CAS project began in September 2024 with a clear and ambitious goal: to raise Rp59,000,000 to support the construction of safe and decent housing for families in need.
What made this project truly special was the creativity and commitment demonstrated by the students. Rather than relying on a single event, they designed and implemented a wide range of fundraising initiatives, engaging the entire school community along the way. These included:
- Bake sales and bazaars
- HopeSphere (a student-led singing competition)
- Dress-up days
- Exhibitions and open donations
- Pemoeda Cup (a student-led football competition)
Each event required meticulous planning and promotion, as the students worked collaboratively, applying teamwork and reflection to ensure success. Through these core elements of meaningful CAS learning, the students developed leadership, communication, and organisational skills, while gaining a deeper understanding of how collective effort can create real and lasting impact.
Reaching the fundraising target marked a major milestone, but it was not the end of the journey. The students also chose to take part directly in the construction of the house on the following dates:
- Saturday, 13th of December 2025 – Foundation work
- Saturday, 10th of January 2026 – Painting activity
These build days allowed the students to witness the tangible results of their efforts. Not only did they raise funds, but they also transformed those funds into walls and roofs, helping to create a safe and secure living space. What began as ideas and events evolved into something real, meaningful, and life-changing.
Habitat for Humanity x GJS is more than a construction project. It is a powerful CAS experience that nurtures compassion, resilience, leadership, and a global mindset. From fundraising in 2024 to hands-on building in 2025 and 2026, this initiative embodies the true spirit of CAS: learning through action and making a genuine difference in the world.
