It has been reported that a total of 153,000 foreigners have visited the Tabanan area, Bali, from January to the second week of November 2025. The majority of these foreigners came to Tabanan for tourism-related purposes.

This was revealed during the Foreigner Monitoring Team Coordination Meeting held in the Tabanan Regional Secretary’s meeting room on Thursday, 13th of November. The inter-agency coordination meeting aimed to ensure effective monitoring of foreigners in Tabanan.

“The number of foreigners entering the Tabanan region has reached 153,000. Because regional authority to monitor foreigners is limited, we invited Immigration and the Pora Team to strengthen synergy and share information,” said Tabanan Regional Secretary, I Gede Susila.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Denpasar Class I Immigration Office, R. Haryo Sakti, noted how Tabanan has become a favourite destination for foreigners this year for tourism, alongside Ubud and Canggu. He also highlighted how Tabanan has become a new sought-after destination among foreigners seeking investment in Bali. Sakti further confirmed that all foreigners entering Bali through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport undergo strict inspections, as well as a rigorous selection process for those wishing to obtain a residence permit in Bali.

Besides Ubud and Canggu, Tabanan is now becoming a new destination for foreigners,” confirmed Sakti, who also attended the coordination meeting.

The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration has also taken notice of Tabanan’s rising popularity among foreigners. They recently announced plans to establish 18 new immigration offices in various provinces, two of which will be in Bali: the Klungkung Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office and the Tabanan Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office.

Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, stated that the decision was based on a letter issued by the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform of the Republic of Indonesia, in Letter Number B/1621/M.KT.01/2025, dated 4th of November 2025. The establishment of new immigration offices aims to provide greater access to passports, residence permits, and other immigration services for both Indonesian citizens and foreigners. Furthermore, the new offices are expected to expand and strengthen immigration oversight and enforcement.

“The establishment of these new offices is part of our effort to improve public services. We are ensuring that areas identified as having significant immigration service needs are adequately accommodated,” said Yusman, as quoted in the press on Thursday.

Tabanan is best known for its Subak irrigation system—a water management system for paddy fields in the form of a complex, artificial ecosystem—which has been recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 2012. One of the popular tourist attractions in Tabanan is the ancient rock formation Tanah Lot, which is home to the Hindu pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot.
