The Football Association of Indonesia (Persatuan Sepak Bola Seluruh Indonesia or PSSI) has confirmed that Patrick Kluivert is no longer the coach of the Indonesian National Football Team following a string of poor results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
PSSI has officially ended its partnership with Patrick Kluivert and the Dutch coaching team across all levels of the Indonesian national football team. The termination follows a series of disappointing results under Kluivert’s leadership, particularly during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Since his appointment as head coach, Kluivert has been widely regarded as having failed to deliver significant progress for the national team. Out of six qualifying matches, Indonesia recorded only two victories — against China and Bahrain. The poor run culminated in Indonesia’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, following a 0–1 defeat to Iraq in the fifth round on Sunday, the 12th of October.
According to an announcement published on the PSSI’s official website on the following Thursday (16th of October), the decision was reached through a mutual termination agreement between the PSSI and the coaching team, who had initially signed a two-year contract.
“The termination of this cooperation was made based on the agreement of both parties, taking into account internal dynamics and the strategic direction of national team development going forward,” read the official PSSI statement.
With this decision, Kluivert and his coaching staff will no longer be responsible for the senior, U23, or U20 national teams. Nevertheless, the PSSI expressed its appreciation for the contributions made by Kluivert and his team during their tenure. The association stated that this step forms part of a comprehensive evaluation of the national football coaching and development programme.
On an Instagram Post uploaded on Thursday, PSSI also wrote: “After working together intensively for almost 12 months, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) expresses its deepest appreciation to Coach Patrick Kluivert and his staff for their dedication and contributions to Indonesian football. Following open and respectful discussions, both parties have agreed to terminate this partnership. We thank Coach Patrick Kluivert and his team for their commitment and professionalism. Their passion and presence in Indonesia will always be remembered with respect, and we wish them the best in their next steps.“
