FIFA President Gianni Infantino is scheduled to visit Indonesia in early October 2026 for a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and to watch the FIFA ASEAN Cup final.
The Chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia (Persatuan Sepak Bola Seluruh Indonesia, or PSSI), Erick Thohir, stated that Infantino will meet with Subianto on the 4th of October. Subsequently, Infantino is scheduled to attend the Division 1 final of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, which is scheduled to take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on the 5th of October.
On the same day, PSSI also invited a number of leaders from Southeast Asian countries to attend the final match.
“I have also invited several leaders from Southeast Asian countries and elsewhere,” Thohir said on Friday, 25th of September.
The 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup marks the first major FIFA tournament to be held in the Southeast Asian region. A total of 14 countries are participating in this championship, comprising 11 ASEAN nations and three invited countries. The competition runs from the 24th of September to the 5th of October. Earlier, the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on the 25th of September was attended by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström.
Meanwhile, on the evening of Monday, 28th of September, two matches will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium: Singapore versus Bangladesh and Indonesia versus Malaysia. The latter match will be crucial for the Indonesian national team, as it could determine their qualification for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup final. Both Indonesia and Malaysia have secured victories in their opening matches; therefore, a second win would significantly boost their chances of topping the group and advancing to the final.
A total of 2,373 Jakarta Metro Police personnel have been deployed to secure the matches.
“Personnel have also been assigned to manage traffic, conduct security sweeps, carry out checks at entry points, and perform patrols and surveillance around the Gelora Bung Karno complex,” the Public Relations Chief of Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said, as quoted from the press on Monday.
