20 specialist doctors from Sports Injury Treatment & Performance Center (SITPEC) at Mayapada Hospital Surabaya are ready to support Persebaya’s performance in the 2026–2027 Super League.
Persebaya has officially entered into a strategic partnership with Mayapada Hospital Surabaya (MHSB) as its Official Medical Partner. This collaboration marks a significant step towards establishing Indonesia’s first integrated sports medicine ecosystem.
The partnership connects a professional football club with a hospital through a comprehensive approach that includes injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement, and provides international-standard medical services for all members of the Persebaya team.
Through this initiative, Persebaya will be supported by the multidisciplinary team of specialists at the Sports Injury Treatment & Performance Center (SITPEC) at Mayapada Hospital Surabaya, dedicated to addressing the club’s medical needs comprehensively. A total of 20 specialist doctors from various disciplines will support the team throughout the season, including experts in sports medicine, orthopaedics, cardiology, physical rehabilitation, radiology, clinical nutrition, internal medicine and psychology.
Notably, SITPEC’s services extend beyond injury treatment to include data-driven injury prevention, risk factor identification, performance optimisation, rehabilitation and continuous player monitoring.
Chief Operating Officer of Mayapada Healthcare, Hendy Widjaja, stated that Mayapada Healthcare’s experience in supporting numerous professional athletes has laid the foundation for Mayapada Hospital Surabaya to provide comprehensive sports medicine services for Persebaya.

“Through SITPEC, we provide a holistic approach encompassing injury prevention, athlete monitoring, rehabilitation, performance enhancement and mental health support. We understand that professional and comprehensive medical support is essential to ensuring Persebaya players maintain peak performance throughout the 2026–2027 Super League season, just as important as the support and passion that Bonek supporters provide to Persebaya,” said Hendy.
SITPEC’s services are also available to the wider public. According to Hendy, sports medicine is not solely intended for professional athletes. Members of the public, sporting communities and sports enthusiasts can also benefit from these services to maintain fitness, prevent injuries, improve performance and accelerate recovery.
“We want more people in Surabaya to remain active, healthy and continue supporting Persebaya while in their best condition,” Hendy emphasised.
Hospital Director of Mayapada Hospital Surabaya, Dr Bona Fernando, BSc, M.D., FISQua, added that SITPEC MHSB provides a data-driven preventive approach through comprehensive health and fitness screening. This includes laboratory testing, cardiac examinations, Body Composition Analysis, cardiopulmonary function assessment (VO2 Max), orthopaedic evaluation, medical imaging when necessary, functional movement assessments to identify injury risks based on athletes’ movement patterns, and psychological evaluations.
Should injuries occur, MHSB is also prepared to provide advanced treatment, including Total Knee Replacement (TKR) procedures using the latest robotic technology, the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, physical rehabilitation services and the implementation of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) protocols.
“These measures are designed to optimise recovery and enable players to return to competition more quickly,” explained Dr Bona.
MHSB is the first hospital in Indonesia to receive ERAS® certification for Robotic TKR procedures and has officially joined the ERAS® Society, the global organisation responsible for developing modern post-operative recovery standards. This recognition reinforces MHSB’s position as a leading international-standard orthopaedic centre in East Java and Eastern Indonesia.
Persebaya Director Candra Wahyudi stated that the collaboration was born from a shared vision between the two organisations to provide comprehensive, modern and internationally recognised healthcare services for athletes.
According to Candra, partnerships between football clubs and hospitals have traditionally been limited to referral arrangements.
“We want to go beyond that by building an ecosystem in which specialist doctors become part of Persebaya’s support system and are fully integrated with the club’s medical team,” said Candra.
Through its collaboration with Mayapada Hospital Surabaya, Persebaya is optimistic that it can provide more professional medical services while offering reassurance to players, coaches and all members of the team throughout the competition.
The concept behind this collaboration was studied by Persebaya’s Head Team Doctor, Dr Pratama Wicaksana Wijaya, Sp.KO, during his attendance at the FIFA Isokinetic Conference in Madrid in 2025. There, he observed how several elite European football clubs had established partnerships with hospitals not merely as referral centres, but as integral components of a fully integrated healthcare ecosystem.
Based on this concept, Persebaya partnered with Mayapada Hospital Surabaya, which offers comprehensive, internationally recognised healthcare services and continues to develop its sports medicine capabilities through SITPEC.
Together with MHSB’s medical team, Persebaya has implemented more comprehensive medical examinations for players, both before competitions and prior to contract signings. The assessments consist of eight stages, including laboratory evaluations, cardiac examinations, orthopaedic assessments, medical imaging where necessary, and functional movement assessments.

These examinations are conducted to identify injury risk factors that may affect players’ future performance. The results may also serve as one of the considerations during the player recruitment process, as they provide objective insights into an athlete’s health condition and injury risk profile.
According to Dr Tommy, this approach enables the club to develop comprehensive health profiles for players, serving as the basis for training programmes and injury prevention strategies.
“Through an integrated system, the entire process, from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation and ongoing monitoring, can be managed within a continuous and coordinated framework,” explained Dr Tommy.
Meanwhile, Persebaya’s young player, Dicky Kurniawan, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership. As a player, Dicky feels reassured that Persebaya has established a comprehensive healthcare management system supported by advanced technology.
“The medical examinations I underwent at Mayapada Hospital were extremely thorough. I’ve never experienced such comprehensive assessments while playing for other clubs,” he said.
Dicky’s views were echoed by Persebaya’s new striker, Ramadhan Sananta. He believes that the collaboration between Persebaya and Mayapada Hospital Surabaya demonstrates the club’s serious commitment to supporting player performance. Drawing on his experience playing for several clubs, including overseas and with the Indonesian national team, Sananta regards this approach as an essential aspect of modern football.
“I’ve played for several clubs and experienced different environments. In my opinion, Persebaya’s decision to establish this kind of integrated partnership is extremely positive because players feel they receive complete support, both in maintaining their condition and when they require medical treatment,” said Sananta.
The implementation of this partnership has already begun with Medical Check-Up (MCU) services for Persebaya’s new players and will continue through various club activities, including medical support services for the Green Force Run 2026, which will take place on the 27th of June.
Green Force Run is an annual running event that has been held for the past seven years to celebrate the anniversary of the City of Surabaya (31st of May) and Persebaya’s anniversary (18th of June).
