JW Marriott Surabaya continues its signature culinary takeover series with Return of the Season, an exclusive takeover of the kitchen at IMARI Japanese Restaurant. Following a successful collaboration in 2024, Chef Daijiro Horikoshi of Takumi Japanese Fine Dining in Bali returns to Surabaya, bringing a renewed expression of modern Japanese cuisine shaped by seasonality and tradition.

Rooted in the Japanese philosophy of appreciating ingredients at their seasonal peak, this experience reflects Chef Daijiro’s distinctive culinary perspective. His mastery of Japanese cuisine is complemented by subtle Balinese influences that have become an integral part of his culinary identity, resulting in creations that are both authentic and contemporary.

At the heart of the experience, guests are invited to explore the art of Japanese gastronomy through an intimate presentation of a 12-course omakase journey, celebrating the finest seasonal Japanese ingredients in perfect harmony. Thoughtfully curated by Chef Daijiro, the menu unfolds through an exquisite selection of zensai, sashimi and nigiri, showcasing premium ingredients such as toro, kuruma ebi, foie gras, unagi shirayaki and Japanese wagyu, before concluding with a refreshing serving of uji-kintoki.

Complementing the experience is a thoughtfully curated six-course kaiseki menu, a refined expression of Japanese culinary craftsmanship rooted in tradition. Through a harmonious progression of seasonal appetisers, comforting osuimono, signature main courses and an elegant dessert finale, Chef Daijiro presents a contemporary interpretation of kaiseki while honouring its timeless philosophy of balance, seasonality and artistry.

Return of the Season was available exclusively on the 3rd and the 4th of July 2026 at IMARI Japanese Restaurant. The experience was priced at Rp1,148,000++ per person for the 12-course omakase and Rp888,000++ per person for the six-course kaiseki set menu.
