The Council President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Salvatore Sciacchitano, recently remarked that Indonesia has strong aviation growth potential in the coming decade.
This aligns with Airport Council International (ACI) projections that place the country as the fourth-largest passenger market in 2036–2040. As quoted by the press on Wednesday, the 26th of November, Sciacchitano remarked during a diplomatic reception at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, Canada. The reception also marked the 75th anniversary of Indonesia’s membership in ICAO; the country joined the organisation in 1950.
Around 200 guests attended the event, including members of the diplomatic corps, permanent representatives to ICAO, global aviation stakeholders, international partners, and members of the Indonesian diaspora in Montréal.
Furthermore, the Director of Aviation Safety at the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Capt. Sigit Hani Hadiyanto emphasised that ICAO remains a crucial partner in shaping safe and sustainable civil aviation policies and standards.
“ICAO is a partner in shaping aviation policies and standards, where member states collaborate towards a safer and more sustainable aviation world,” said Hadiyanto.
Additionally, the Indonesian Ambassador to Canada, who also serves as Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to ICAO, Muhsin Syihab, highlighted Indonesia’s long track record since five years after independence, as well as its active commitment to developing international standards.
“Indonesia has made many improvements and actively participated in developing international aviation standards. We are committed to responding to the evolution of the aviation sector,” remarked Syihab.
Indonesia’s aviation sector has continued to strengthen this year. Earlier in November, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation—through the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency (Badan Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Perhubungan or BPSDMP) and the Civil Aviation Human Resources Development Centre (Pusat Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Perhubungan Udara or PPSDMPU)—carried out the ICAO Trainair Plus Programme (TPP) Membership On-Site Re-Assessment activity in Curug, Banten.
The Head of PPSDMPU, M. Abrar Tuntalanai, underscored that this initiative demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining its internationally recognised aviation reputation as well as the quality of its flight training.
“We are committed to maintaining training standards in accordance with ICAO guidelines, so that PPSDMPU can continue to contribute to the development of global aviation capacity,” Tuntalanai said earlier in a press release on Saturday, the 8th of November.
