Antoine and Marie Audebert Introduce My Little Beringin and the Importance of Early Childhood Education

By combining the best French early childhood practices with the richness of Indonesian culture, My Little Beringin aims to build a global and balanced educational ecosystem for children aged 0–3.

My Little Beringin, a micro-nursery based in Jakarta, was born out of a very simple, yet fundamental scientific fact: that the first 1,000 days of life are a delicate, yet uncompromisable period of a child’s brain development. With a passion for early childhood education and the courage to build a home in a brave new world, French natives Antoine and Marie Audebert established My Little Beringin to help parents navigate the crucial development of their beloved newborns in the busy metropolitan that is Jakarta. Indonesia Expat had a profound conversation with Antoine and Marie about My Little Beringin and its admirable vision.

Hi, Antoine and Marie! Let’s start with your background a little bit. What can you tell us about yourselves?

We met a little over 10 years ago through the business network BNI – Business Networking International, which is present in more than 70 countries, including France and Indonesia.

Marie discovered Indonesia in 2010 while organising an international folklore festival in Confolens, France. That year, she welcomed an Indonesian dance troupe. A genuine connection developed with the young women in the group, marking the beginning of a deep attachment to the country. Since then, Marie has travelled to Indonesia 10 times and built lasting friendships; some of her Indonesian friends have even visited her in France.

In 2024, Antoine sold his company. This milestone led us to reflect on what would come next. Indonesia gradually became an obvious choice. The decision to move was made in December 2024. After an exploratory trip in April 2025, we officially settled in Indonesia on August 9th, 2025, ready to begin a new entrepreneurial chapter.

Can you share with our readers, in a nutshell, what My Little Beringin does?

My Little Beringin is a micro-nursery, a kind of pre-school designed for welcoming children from two months to three years old. Around 80% of a child’s brain development takes place during the first 1,000 days of life. During this period, a child should not grow up only with a nanny or exclusively within the family environment. They need a structured, safe and stimulating setting designed specifically for their overall development.

We offer a complete ecosystem dedicated to children aged 0–3, focusing on motor development, emotional regulation and autonomy—while always respecting each child’s individual rhythm. It is essential not to overstimulate young children, but rather to provide a rich and adapted environment. We also organise workshops for parents and nannies to share the best practices we apply within the micro-nursery—such as sleep routines, avoiding screen exposure and appropriate baby positioning to support healthy motor development. The objective is to ensure educational consistency between the nursery and the home.

Have you two always been passionate about early childhood education?

Marie initially studied in the construction field, but she had always been deeply passionate about early childhood. She later obtained her qualifications and became the director of a micro-nursery in France. Antoine, on the other hand, is passionate about entrepreneurship, project creation and team dynamics. The field of early childhood is particularly meaningful because it contributes to preparing future generations.

At first, we did not intend to open a micro-nursery in Indonesia. However, after speaking with local families, we identified a real need for a professionally structured environment for children aged 0–3. That is how My Little Beringin was born.

From my understanding, My Little Beringin applies a very fascinating approach, which is combining the best French early childhood practices with the richness of Indonesian culture. Can you elaborate more on this approach?

We do not position ourselves as ‘better’ simply because we are French. However, we do bring an organisational structure and practices inspired by European standards, particularly in terms of respecting the child’s rhythm.

Our approach is centred both on the child and on the family. Supporting a young child also means supporting parents and the adults around them. One important element we brought from France is the use of a secure digital application dedicated to families. It allows parents to be informed in real time about their child’s day—activities, meals, naps, key moments, and photos—only of their own child. Access is strictly personal and confidential. The platform also enables secure communication regarding arrival and departure times. We deliberately avoid using generic tools such as Google Drive or Dropbox in order to guarantee confidentiality and protect children’s image rights.

We chose an Indonesian name and we work with local teams because we deeply believe in the richness of Indonesian culture. This multicultural dimension is essential in preparing children to grow and adapt within diverse environments.

It is also very fascinating that, in supporting the children’s early development, My Little Beringin takes cues from Pikler-Lóczy, Snoezelen and Montessori educational approaches as well. Can you elaborate more on how you blend these approaches?

What few people realise is that the Montessori approach does not suit all children, all age groups, or all developmental needs. It is rich and valuable, but it cannot stand alone. To create a true educational balance, it is essential to combine it with complementary methods.

The Pikler-Lóczy approach supports free movement and body confidence. It is based on a fundamental principle: the adult must first observe before acting. For this to be possible, the environment must be safe and carefully designed so that the child can explore independently. The Snoezelen approach, meanwhile, is a sensory space that we designed and had created in Bandung. It is a reassuring environment that supports emotional regulation and self-connection. It is particularly useful for children with special needs and allows for genuine inclusion. Through Snoezelen, we lay the emotional foundations of the child.

I have also discovered that My Little Beringin is very particular when it comes to recruiting its staff, as you two always ensure that all of the educators at My Little Beringin have, at the very least, a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Why is this considered crucial for My Little Beringin and the children who are entrusted under its care?

Caring for children aged 0–3 requires specific competencies: emotional regulation, careful observation of development, guidance in food diversification, and a professional posture. It is, thus, a profession in its own right that requires proper training and the ability to step back and reflect. As a result, we have recruited exclusively educators holding a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a professional with a degree in psychology.

From your perspective, what is it that parents still misunderstand about children aged 0 to 3?

Once the child arrives, parents are not always fully informed about the stages of early development. Out of a desire to ‘do things right,’ and sometimes under the pressure of external expectations, parents may be tempted to accelerate certain milestones. However, each child follows their own rhythm. Giving time to your child does not necessarily mean spending the entire day with them. Giving time means offering quality time—being truly present, attentive and available to understand your child’s needs as well as emotions.

Is there any upcoming family workshop, to be held by My Little Beringin in the foreseeable future, that you can tease right now and might be of interest to parents out there?

We will be launching our workshops starting in June. We particularly think that those focused on crying and tantrums will really change the perspective of parents. Our goal is to provide practical tools for understanding these situations and to create a space for exchange and support. These workshops will be open to all parents through registration on our website.

Last but not least, how can our readers get in touch with you and My Little Beringin?

We currently have two locations in Jakarta: Kemang and Cipete. Everybody is welcome for a planned visit. Parents can arrange a discovery half-day by contacting us:
