The Whoosh High-Speed Train is increasingly popular among international tourists, as PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the operator of Whoosh, recently recorded that the number of foreign passengers using the Whoosh service throughout 2025 reached 401,282.
This figure represents an increase of more than 60% compared to 251,525 passengers in 2024. This growth further strengthens Whoosh’s position as a preferred mode of transport for foreign tourists visiting Indonesia. Cumulatively, Whoosh’s foreign passenger numbers have reached 681,713 since its launch in 2023. This trend is considered to align with the recovery of national tourism and increased international mobility to Indonesia in the post-pandemic period.
KCIC Corporate Secretary General Manager Eva Chairunisa said the increase in foreign passengers proves that Indonesia’s high-speed rail service is capable of competing on a global level. According to the latest KCIC data, Malaysian tourists were the largest users of Whoosh, with a total of 298,531 passengers. This was followed by Singaporeans (83,371 passengers), Chinese (59,893 passengers), Japanese (32,176 passengers), and South Koreans (21,974 passengers).
“Foreign tourists are increasingly trusting Whoosh due to the safety, comfort, and efficiency of travel time it offers,” Chairunisa said in a written statement published on Monday, the 26th of January.
KCIC assessed that this growth in foreign passengers is also in line with rising global awareness of the Whoosh high-speed train service. Furthermore, Chairunisa stated that KCIC is committed to continuously improving service quality and strengthening transport integration to make the service more welcoming to international tourists, while also supporting the development of the national tourism sector.
“Whoosh is not only a means of transportation, but also an integral part of the travel experience for foreign tourists in Indonesia. Consistent use by tourists from various countries demonstrates the competitiveness of the Whoosh service internationally,” Chairunisa concluded.
The Whoosh High-Speed Train is the first high-speed train in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, serving the Jakarta–Bandung route at speeds of up to 350 km/h. Whoosh currently operates through four main stations: Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar. In October 2015, a consortium of state-owned enterprises, which formed PT Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia (PSBI), together with a consortium of Chinese railway companies through Beijing Yawan HSR Co. Ltd, established KCIC as the operator of Whoosh.
