Anies Baswedan’s Administration Issues Illegal Permit for Reclaimed Island

Anies Baswedan

The buildings on D island have been found to possess permits (IMB) issued by Anies Baswedan’s administration, which are considered to be a violation.

The violation is due to the fact a regional regulation on Spatial Planning for North Coast of Jakarta Strategic Areas and Plan of Coastal Zoning and Small Islands, has yet to be released.

Manuara Siahaan, a legislative councillor of Jakarta city (DPRD) – the commission observing the development – has said that the issuance of the IMB is fallacious. Manuara has also urged the members of the commission to form a special committee to discuss the fraudulent IMB issued for the island of Maju.

According to him, the issuance of the illegal IMB has revealed the quality of the current administration of Jakarta, which favours unlawful developers. “The government should not give in to developers,” the PDIP politician added.

Nelson Nikodemus Simamora, an attorney for the Save Jakarta Bay Coalition, shares the same sentiments as Manuara. According to Nelson, the illegal IMB has not only violated the law, but the regional regulations (Perda) also. Earlier, Anies Baswedan and his running mate, Sandiaga Uno had vowed to terminate all reclamation projects during their campaign for the Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2017.

The Save Jakarta Bay Coalition also urged the governor to revoke Gubernatorial Decree No. 121/2012, concerning Spatial Plan for North Coast of Jakarta Strategic Areas and No. 2016/2016 on the Plan of Coastal Zoning of Island C, D, and E, which resulted from the reclamation project. They added that the revocation will be an immediate way for Anies Baswedan to stop the project.
