Transjakarta to Add Extra Buses During Ramadan Rush Hour

Bus operator Transjakarta will increase the number of buses running each day to accommodate residents in the capital for rush hour during the fasting month of Ramadan.

“During peak hours, we will operate 20 percent more buses, then we will continue to add buses every 30 minutes,” PT Transjakarta President Director Budi Kaliwono said in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 24.

Transjakarta bus operations will be adjusted to coincide with changed working hours during the fasting month, as many passengers will be taking part, Budi said.

He added that during this period business hours often change, which in turn affects rush hour and so Transjakarta must change to best suit customer needs.

The morning rush hour during Ramadan shifts to 5 am to 8 am, from the usual 6 am to 9 am, Transjakarta Director of Business Services and Development Welfizon Zulfa said. The after work rush hour shifts from 4 pm to 7 pm, to 3 pm to 6 pm during Ramadan.

“There is a change of rush hour during Ramadan. The busy hours start earlier than usual days, so the bus operations will be increased,” Welfizon said.

On a typical day, Transjakarta operates 1,100 buses, but after Ramadan begins that will increase to up to 1,250, he said.

In addition to changed peak times, buses will end operations an hour earlier than usual at 10 pm.

“After 10 pm, we will operate the Transjakarta Night Buse (Amari), so we will be operating 24 hours a day,” Welfizon said.
